Friday’s Fitness Philosophies – Does Protein Turn Into Fat?
Friday’s Fitness Philosophies
I am going to give you some common sense nutritional advice that I guarantee you haven’t heard before. When you sit down to eat LOOK at what you are eating, consider what it is. Let’s pretend you are at Texas Roadhouse, and you order an 8 oz. steak, baked potato, and 2 tbsp. of butter, sour cream, cheddar cheese, 2 rolls and 24 oz. Coke. I want you to visualize all that food is in front of you. “Well I don’t like red meat and don’t drink Coke!” FOCUS…. and switch the steak to Chicken and the Coke to sweet tea, NOW VIZUALIZE IT!
The Coke, rolls and potato are all carbohydrates, the butter and cheese fit the classification of a fat, and the chicken or steak is classified as a protein.
Here are some facts:
Carbohydrates: are done providing energy within 2 hours of consumption then STORED AS FAT.
Fats: are done providing instant energy and stored as Fat 6-8 hour after digestion.
Protein: your body uses protein as energy by converting branch chain amino acids (alanine and glutamine) into glucose (gluconeogenesis) during states of STARVATION. Protein is the building blocks for muscle NOT FAT.
People think overeating protein will make you fat…. This is nearly impossible. In order to gain body fat from protein you would need an insulin level spike from protein while you are in starvation mode. Could it happen? Yes and Ravens could bring me food while I am drinking from crystal clear waters of the Brook Cherith. In other words in order to get fat from the macronutrient protein alone you would need divine intervention.
This is an over simplification but what you see on your plate is what it’s going to do on your body. Almost every body part that you like to look at is made from protein with the exception of a few things….. aka Dolly Parton. Then you add a small layer of fat and you get the body you dreamed of.
From now on when you build your plate start with the food that will give you the curves you want (protein) not the fat you’re trying to lose, then add in the other macronutrients.
Malia the girl in the photo eats an average of 160 grams of a protein a day.
