Wednesday’s Word’s of Wisdom with Malia

I had Malia write down the three primary keys that led to her success.   I will get to that but first let me tell you more about Malia.  When I started training Malia she was a Cardio Queen (someone who loves cardio and does little or no weight training) I am not using that term in a derogatory method.  In fact I said she was a queen (so get off my back) I would love for someone to call me Weight Training King.

The training she did was not bringing her the results she wanted so she contacted me.  I am so glad she did because now she has learned that cardio by itself doesn’t bring the body she desperately wanted.  She started understanding the difference between activity and accomplishment.  Every time one of my clients has a goal to run a marathon I make sure that’s what they really want to do.

A lot of people have an aesthetic goal (look a certain way, certain body composition, look like a fitness model) but somehow they think when they are able to run a marathon magically they will be ripped.  I was just talking to a client today and she said “I told my son some people who are in great shape can’t run, Don cannot run!”  In my defense I can run but just short distances. I would beat anyone to the ice-cream truck.

Long story short Malia had a goal that she realized she could not achieve doing the same things she had always done.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results” Albert Einstein (attributed to)

Now here they are Malia’s Three Keys to Success

“I would say my keys to success would be staying consistent, always moving, which I don’t have a problem doing at all! Meal prepping ahead of time, & having a spouse/significant other that is just as passionate about fitness.  We help push each other. It’s kind of hard to just pick 3! 😉

Also, having a couple health scares have also motivated me to live a more healthy and active lifestyle.  I try and do something almost daily.  I feel 100% better when I’m moving & eating right! Do I occasionally have pizza, or maybe hit up Ted Drew’s? Absolutely, but I also know that it’s a treat, and not something I know that I can have all the time.

Being healthy and active is just a huge part my lifestyle.  I’m more confident than ever in the gym, I feel strong, not only physically, but mentally as well, and receiving compliments from other trainers isn’t a bad thing!

Also having friends with apple watches is fun, I’m a very competitive person when it comes to activity, I love being on top of challenges!! But I also love encouraging my friends as well!”

I love the science of human achievement and Malia’s three points demonstrate the importance of good time management, a success principle called temptation bundling, and cost benefit ratio.   She might not have even heard of those principles, but she does them because Malia is a woman of action
