She is the key to YOUR SUCCESS
If you surrender your responsibility to change because you don’t make the right decisions, you lose your liberty.
Liberty: the state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one’s way of life, behavior, or political views.
I love freedom. For me, there is nothing more liberating than being able to play sports without being the first person lying down on the ground trying to catch my breath. If I played a game of basketball right now, in my current cardio-respiratory condition, I would have to take a five- minute cigarette break for every minute of activity, and I don’t even smoke. I can hear what you are thinking… “You’re a trainer and you can’t play a game of basketball without getting out of breath?” The answer is no, I can’t. But don’t judge me, because I could pick you up and throw you…and I can see my feet!
Most people are not physically able to do the things they want to do. They are a prisoner in their own body. Most people are so beat down mentally, they don’t think they can achieve anything. So, as a result, they have lost their desire to do anything other than what they are currently doing.
Desire changes when you can see yourself doing things you have never done. I just got off the phone with one of my clients. I told her, “ You are going to be doing a lot of walking/jogging/running at Forest Park.” Her response was, “eeehhhh…” That was not a ringing endorsement of my plans.
The good thing is, I don’t care how she feels.
I don’t have an ounce of sympathy in me. Not an ounce. I don’t give anyone sympathy and I personally don’t want any sympathy myself. Sympathy leaves you in the same place it finds you. If you are in the mud and I am sympathetic, I will get down in the mud with you and say, “I hate it here in the mud. I am going to cry with you. I hope me being in the mud with you makes you feel better.”
I am not sympathetic, but I am empathetic. If you’re in the mud, empathy says, “I know how you feel, but I am not going to let you stay in the position you are in. You’re coming out of this mud, because I am climbing down into the mud to help you out of it.”
Regardless of your goal, with the right amount of EFFORT, it’s always well within reach.
